Privacy Policy
Last updated October 11, 2026.
Curate & Harness (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates curateandharness.com, the Curate & Harness Substack publication, and connected tools including Inventory, the Style Quiz, Closet Review, and Clothing Search (together, the “Services”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Contact information: your email address, collected when you subscribe to the Substack publication, sign in to a paid feature, or contact us directly.
- Account and access information: Cloudflare Access verifies your email with a one-time code when you sign in. We then check that email against our copy of the Curate & Harness subscriber list (below) before letting you into Closet Review, Clothing Search, or the Style Quiz.
- Content you provide: photos and descriptions you upload to Inventory; wardrobe preferences, photos, chat messages, and outfit ratings you provide to the Style Quiz, along with your device’s time zone; wardrobe screenshots, item details, brands, chat messages, and voice memos you provide to Closet Review; style profiles, item descriptions, and brand selections you enter into Clothing Search; and photos you choose to import from Google Photos.
- Usage information: basic server logs, like request timestamps and error data, that help us keep the Services running and secure.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookie-less, privacy-focused tool, to see aggregate traffic statistics like page views and referring sites — it does not use cookies and does not track you individually across websites.
Our own server also counts how the site is used, so we can tell which pages and features are helpful: page views and the site that referred you, clicks on Subscribe and shop links (which pass through a short redirect on our site first), and when a feature is started, finished, or reaches its limit, along with what its AI processing cost. These counts store your country, device type (phone, tablet, or computer), and, for signed-in features, whether you have a free or paid subscription. They never store your name, email address, IP address, photos, or anything you type. To count visitors without cookies, we keep a scrambled code made from your connection that changes every day, so visits on different days can’t be linked; for signed-in features we keep a scrambled code made from your sign-in ID, so we can count returning readers without knowing who they are. The only cookies we set are functional: one that keeps you signed in through Cloudflare Access, and short-lived session cookies for the Style Quiz, Closet Review, and Clothing Search that expire automatically.
How we verify subscriber access
Closet Review, Clothing Search and the Style Quiz are free for Curate & Harness subscribers; Style Quiz outfits generated on you are included with a paid subscription. Once a day we copy our subscriber list from Substack: each subscriber’s email address, whether their subscription is free or paid, and when they subscribed. We use it only to decide who can use these features. When you unsubscribe, the next daily copy marks you as no longer subscribed, and access ends. A new subscription usually starts working within a day. Paid access can also come from our payment records through Stripe.
How we use your information
- Provide, personalize, and maintain the Services;
- Verify and manage paid subscriber access;
- Generate AI-assisted suggestions, style profiles, and outfit visuals from the content you provide;
- Send transactional emails you request, such as an emailed style card or Closet Review results;
- Respond to you when you contact us; and
- Keep the Services secure and working correctly.
AI processing
Some features send the content you provide — like photos, style preferences, or search queries — to third-party AI providers, currently OpenAI, to generate suggestions, images, and written responses. Those providers process this content under their own data-handling terms and may retain it separately from us. We do not use your content to train our own models.
Style Quiz photo handling
The Style Quiz asks for photos to build your color and silhouette suggestions. Uploaded photos are re-encoded to remove embedded location and camera metadata. Active quiz uploads, chat, and full-size outfit images are deleted after your card is emailed, when you end the quiz, or when your temporary session expires — the default session is 60 minutes, and retrying a step doesn’t extend it. An outfit image is deleted as soon as you rate it.
When you start the Style Quiz, your browser also sends its time zone (for example, “America/Los_Angeles”), so suggested outfits suit your season. It’s a region, not your location, and it’s deleted with the rest of your quiz session.
For free subscribers, outfits are shown as boards of drawn garments, put together on our server from a fixed set of illustrations in the colors chosen for you; no images of you are generated. Your photos are still used, the same way, for your color and silhouette suggestions.
Your finished card, PDF profile, and outfit previews stay available on the quiz page for up to five minutes, within your original session deadline. The PDF doesn’t include your source photos or email address.
We keep your latest style card (its text, your color palette and the clothes you chose to explore) with your sign-in email, so when you come back, on any device, you can rate new outfits without starting over. It never includes your photos, your chat or outfit images. A new quiz replaces it, and choosing “Clear my history” in the Studio deletes it.
We also use hashed account identifiers — not photos or conversation — to track daily usage and monthly completion limits; daily counters expire after one day, and monthly completion markers expire at the next UTC month.
Closet Review screenshots and closet file
Closet Review reads your wardrobe screenshots to list your pieces. Screenshots are re-encoded to remove metadata, and small cropped pictures of each piece, not whole screenshots, are sent to our AI provider to be described. Screenshots are deleted as soon as they’ve been read. Your piece list, pictures, and results are kept only in your temporary session, for at most 60 minutes. We don’t keep your closet: it’s yours in the PDF you download or have emailed to you, and we read that file only when you upload it again.
If you use Closet Review as a chat, your conversation, your closet (with its pictures), and your last review are saved in your own browser on your device, so you can pick up where you left off; “Clear my history” deletes them. Each message sends your closet descriptions (not the pictures) and your message to our AI provider to update your closet. If you record a voice memo, the recording is sent to our AI provider to be transcribed and is deleted as soon as it has been transcribed; we keep only the text, in your temporary session, and it’s shown back to you in the chat.
Paid subscribers can see an outfit of pieces they already own on themselves. For that image you add a portrait and a full-length photo. They’re sent, with pictures of the pieces, to our AI provider to make that one image, and removed from our temporary session as soon as the request starts. The finished image is sent to your device and then deleted from our side. If you choose “keep my photos on this device”, your photos are saved in your own browser for next time; “Forget my photos” or “Clear my history” deletes them.
Choosing photos from Google Photos
The Style Quiz, Closet Review, and Inventory let you choose photos directly from Google Photos instead of uploading them. When you do, Google asks your permission to share only the photos you select; we can’t see the rest of your library. We download just those photos and then treat them exactly like uploads: they’re re-encoded to remove location and camera metadata and follow the same deletion schedule as the feature you’re using. The access Google gives us is temporary and read-only. We discard it once your photos are downloaded (for the Style Quiz and Closet Review, within 15 minutes at most) and don’t keep ongoing access to your account. You can also remove it anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Curate & Harness’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use photos you choose from Google Photos only to provide the feature you chose them for. We don’t sell them, use them for advertising, or use them to develop or train AI models. They’re sent to our AI provider only as part of that feature, just like uploaded photos.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run the Services, including:
- OpenAI, to power AI-generated suggestions and images;
- Cloudflare, to authenticate signed-in subscribers and to provide aggregate, cookie-less website traffic analytics;
- Substack, which hosts our publication and manages paid subscriptions;
- Google, when you choose to import photos from Google Photos;
- Resend, to deliver certain emails, such as your emailed style card or Closet Review results;
- ShopMy, for the product collections we link to — note that some links on our site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you make a purchase through them; and
- Impact (impact.com), the affiliate network behind some Clothing Search product links. When you click one of those links, it passes through Impact, which records the click so the brand can credit a purchase to us, and we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don’t send Impact your email, style profile, or anything else you enter; Impact and the brand handle the click under their own privacy policies.
We do not sell your personal information, and we only share it beyond this list if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Curate & Harness or others.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your subscription is active, plus a short grace period, or as long as needed to provide a feature you’re using. Time-limited features, like the Style Quiz, follow the schedule described above. You can ask us to delete your information at any time; see “Your choices” below.
Your choices
- Ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you;
- Unsubscribe from emails using the link in any email, or by contacting us; and
- Stop using a feature at any time — most content tied to a session or feature is deleted automatically once that session ends.
To exercise any of these choices, email [email protected].
Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Where your information is processed
The Services are hosted in the United States, and your information may be processed there and by the service providers listed above, which may be located in other countries.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services change. We’ll update the “last updated” date above when we do; significant changes will be noted on this page.
